Emily and Ryan have been together for three years now. They met at their place of work, flirted here and there and then decided to go out one night after work. My favorite part is that Emily broke the ice first by asking Ryan if he wanted to get a drink. In his words: “I was already curious about her. I knew when she asked to get a drink, she was interested too. It wasn’t a date, but it felt like one.”  They immediately hit it off. Before the night was over, Ryan asked her out on a formal date and they’ve been together ever since.

These two are adorable, quirky, sweet and just simply awesome. In working with my couples during their engagement shoot, I always get a great sense of who they are and how they work together. These two are the best balance to each other; they compliment each other in such a positive way and they are always laughing. Emily also happens to be a florist, creating some of the most beautiful floral arrangements I have ever seen. Because of this talent, she has an amazing eye for detail and style. She made sure to style her engagement shoot and wow did she look stunning- from her accessories, to the gown, to Ryan’s boots, I loved it all. All of the details were personal and well thought out which gave me a lot to work with.

Ryan decided to set his proposal beside the old Colorado Street Bridge, amongst the trees and a setting sun. They took a  brisk hike then took a break beneath the bridge. He then asked her to marry him.  This was actually their first time back to the bridge, since he proposed, which made the shoot that much more meaningful. We all got a little teary eyed with excitement

“Our Wedding is the next adventure of many. It’s hard to explain, but sometimes you just know when everything is right.” -Ryan

I adore this couple and I cannot wait to document their wedding.

The Descanso Gardens is always a popular venue for engagements and weddings. I’ve had many request it. I’ve never had a couple travel quite as far as these two did however. This couple came all the way from Japan! They wanted to celebrate their engagement in Los Angeles and have their engagement documented by yours truly. What?! I was completely flattered and flabbergasted! So much so that I created a new word for this… flattergasted. You’re welcome. When I finally met them, they were irrirresistibly adorable. I wanted to put them in my pocket and snack on them later. They were so colorful and vivaciously full of giggles, deeply in love with a pinch of shy and so so sweet. We walked Descanso Gardens for a little over an hour. The time flew by as did the acres, mainly because we were all having so much fun. They may have been a little shy but due to their immense trust in me and their overall zest for life, they were open to trying anything. So we played, made a game out of the session and it flew by, like it would with friends you’ve known for years. In Mamiko’s words (the bride to be)-

“We will remember these moments at which you made us laugh and happy. We felt very welcomed and comfortable the whole day. We were shy but enjoyed, thanks to your joyful and fun encouragement. We were lucky to find you for our engagement shoot. Thank you very much for satisfying our wishes and spending time for us.  We felt like we were walking in the park with a couple friends.”

It’s the best compliment ever. Happy with the photography- check. Happy in general during the shoot- check. Acquiring two new friends for the future- priceless. Cue Pharell Williams…

So here are the deets on the shoot: He wore Calvin Klein while she wore a gorgeous soft pink, print dress by Anne Taylor. Hair and make-up was beautifully performed by the always amazing Tracy Taylor. In bloom we had tulips, a wide variety of cherry blossoms and of course there is always the impressive California oaks. So we stuck to those three. We made sure to enter the gardens at sunset, allowing mother nature to set the backdrop and seal each photograph with a warm majestic kiss. The gardens were ridiculous, like something out of Alice and Wonderland and the sunset was a bottle of pure orange Euphoria, not like the kind you get at Ralphs but the kind you get carefully crafted on etsy. One of a kind. In fact, between the weathered mood and the company, all in all, it was a pretty amazing shoot. Unfortunately, they had to rush back to Japan the next day but I have high hopes that I’ll be seeing them again in the future.

I met Andrew & Katie about six months ago. They walked into my studio, completely quirky, energetic, flirtatious and contagiously in love. I knew instantly that they were the perfect match for our team and that I would soon be working with them. So when their engagement session came up last week, I was beyond thrilled. We headed to Descanso Gardens which will also be their venue for their wedding. They loved the location and wanted a good practice run before the big day so we chose a few different settings and were able to play within the expansive gardens for a whole hour.

She wore an adorably cute vintage blue sailor dress, while he came in a pair of mint condition, blue & white, Air Jordan’s. He’s a collector and these were one of his faves. They made a special appearance to the shoot.

We weaved in and out of gardens, from the California Natives, to the Rose Gardens and ended in The Japanese Gardens.  It was so quiet and due to our late hour (dusk) we had the place practically to ourselves. They danced through their session… sometimes literally. As the minutes passed, so did their nerves and by the end of the session, it was all about the two of them.

You gotta love the shoes! Seriously, I love a couple that knows how to coordinate their shoes, just saying.

Andrew and Katie will be getting married at end of this month. I cannot wait . Their style and grace have left me on the edge of my seat and I look forward to capturing all of their wedding day details!
