I had the pleasure of shooting this family just before the Christmas holiday began. They were a new family for me and we had a blast together. Due to the remarkably dry and hot winter season, that California continues to have, we were able to have our shoot at the beach- complete with bare feet and summer dresses! (It’s a rough life). As you may know, I prefer to bring my families outdoors and watch them play, interact, and love on one another in big open spaces so a warm winter is always a huge positive since it never restricts us to one space. For this shoot, we started out at The Palos Verdes Beach and Athletic Club’s parks and recreation. We then worked our way down the Malaga Cove trail to it’s Cove. We caught the coast just at sunset so our backdrop was a vivid palette of colors and the sand, due to low tide, stretched out before us like glass.

I instantly fell in love with this family and their adorable dog “Dot.” Dot could only make it for part of the shoot, since she’s seventeen years old and can’t take too much action these days but that being said she doesn’t seem a day over five and is still very protective and caring towards the kids.

And this was one of the main images they used for this year’s Christmas card. I know the holiday’s are over but I love this image so I thought I’d throw it in.

thankful,thanksgiving. #OperationThanksgiving, holidays, family

Thanksgiving through the “I” of my phone. #OperationThanksgiving

It’s two in the morning. My husband has officially fallen asleep, my dogs are at my feet, the house is quiet and the room is aglow with twinkly lights, candles and  left over excitement (that couldn’t be contained and stored within a tupperware bowl). The remaining food has been crammed into our fridge & the remaining cookies are being crammed into my mouth, along with some leftover wine. You get the idea. I’m extremely nostalgic & entirely grateful and so here I sit, reflecting…

The truth is, I have been gifted, with a calm after the storm; a chance to collect my thoughts, about family, my husband, my mother, my pets, my neighbors, my friends, my enemies (not gonna lie, I think about them too) my trials, my  tribulations, my past, my future and my present. I am thankful for all of it. I have somehow managed to attract & surround myself with some of the most gifted and giving individuals this universe has ever squeezed out. Sometimes, I can’t believe it and sometimes I question it but in the end, I am so so thankful.

Long story short, we went from hosting 6 people to hosting a total of 20 people tonight. It was all very complicated & those that RSVP’ed, were all within the last 24 hours. What!? Yep, it was completely last minute & it was completely crazy but I would not have changed it for the world. I met new people and became reacquainted with others. That (to me) is what Thanksgiving is all about. Remembering, rejoicing & reaffirming. Tonight was complete chaos but within that chaos, there was serenity, a few lessons & complete bliss.

What am I trying to say?… well for starters, Happy Thanksgiving! Secondly, we cannot always predict or plan out our path. What will be will be. It is how we react or embrace what is given to us, that truly matters. I am always relearning this lesson.

“A mind not changed by Place or Time … is its own place, and in it self can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.” ― John Milton, Paradise Lost

I choose to make it heaven.
