Aidan

I’ve had the pleasure of documenting him every year of his life.  It’s been fun and he’s definitely kept me running during our sessions together.  The shot below was taken when Aidan was approximately  five months.  He had this vibrant blue rug on the floor of his nursery and it caught my eye every time I passed it by.  So I used it as a backdrop, allowing him to curiously gaze up at my camera.  To this day it serves as one of my  favorite shots.

Recently the family was blessed with another baby boy…

Thomas

I was called over to the house to do a family holiday bake shoot.  Since mom is a well known food blogger it was totally appropriate (more on that session in the future).  While I was there, we decided to document Thomas on the very rug that we documented Aidan.  Yes the rug was a bit more aged and worn but one can’t deny how strikingly similar they look.  It turned out to be such a colorful way to capture the boys at five months of age and turned out to be the perfect gift for the grandparents.

I had the pleasure of meeting Easton during our family portrait season this year.  How would I describe him?  Well, He’s a courageously independent six year old with a mom to match.  In fact, the two of them make a great team.  He would tell jokes, she graciously laughed.  He defended her every step with his crazy karatay moves and she knew all the right tickle spots.

Normally, these two can be found in the Oxnard zip-code but on this day, they were visiting family in Los Feliz so we decided to meet at Griffith Park for an hour long session. Griffith Park is not only one of my favorite areas for portraits but it is always successful in creating that woodsy holiday feel that one doesn’t often get in California.   That’s right, it looks like a woodsy wonderland right?… nobody needs to know that it was really a balmy eighty-two degrees that day (I’m still wondering if cali’s ever going to have a winter this year).   Besides the perfect backdrop, Griffith always provides the perfect environment, for any kid.  Easton was able to run, play, climb and perform, no holds barred and he had us in stitches the entire time.  He’s the man of a thousand faces and was always ready with a punchline.  He could also be found leading the way for us with his trustee branch sword in hand, ready to take on the world.  He was an extremely confident and imaginative kid.  And mom, well… she was his biggest fan.  Understandably my time, with both of them, flew by.

Tis the season… to drive to the beach for family portraits!  It’s been so hot lately that I fully endorse the sharp cool breezes and drastic temperature drops that the beach can provide. Fully endorse. So lately I mention the beach (often) to all of my families for their portraits. I mean temperature aside, the beach is never short of gorgeous and its wide-open terrain is a good playground for any imagination. So it’s a win-win really.  For this round, we headed to the Santa Monica pier.

Grace was excited for the beach. Gymnastics, dancing, martial arts, running, shell searching, bonding with her parents and drawing in the sand were all readily at her disposal. She has a very adventurous spirit and is head over heels in love with her mom and dad. Adores them. Wanted every shot to have them in it. She’s a charmer. Completely outgoing and smart. In fact, she already has many ambitions for her life so I made sure to conclude her shoot promptly so she could get started. And I’m definitely on the edge of my seat to hear about all of her adventures, when next we meet shoot.
