I am absolutely in love with these girls! With their fiery red hair, gentle spirits and hot pink pants, who wouldn’t love em! Jayden is the eldest and I’ve had the pleasure of working with her for a few years now. Kendall is the newest addition to the family and this was her first shoot. She was a pro though and of course she was able to rely on big sis for any tips of the trade.

Our location for this one- the family’s new Manhattan Beach home. It. Was. Gorgeous. And empty. So it served as a great modern/monochromatic backdrop. The kids loved it because due to it’s lack of furniture and appliances, it  allowed their imaginations to run wild. Three floors of empty halls and open walls. You couldn’t contain their enthusiasm. They definitely kept me on my toes for this one.

My favorite part?… when mom had the genius idea to bring up this basket and use it as a photo prop. OMG, we played peek-a-boo for a good 15 minutes. We couldn’t get enough. I’ve always said that I get the best workouts on my family portrait days but not just because I run around and play with them, it’s also because I laugh the entire time. Best ab workout ever.

“Sisters don’t need words. They have perfected a language of snarls and smiles and frowns and winks – expressions of shocked surprise and incredulity and disbelief. Sniffs and snorts and gasps and sighs – that can undermine any tale you’re telling.” – Pam Brown

The day started with warm sand, clear blue skies and colorful sombreros.  Sombreros?… That’s right.  It was not only Stephanie and Andrew’s wedding day, it was also Cinco de Mayo and the {jcp} team would be celebrating and documenting it all within beautiful Manhattan Beach, which is where Andrew and Stephanie first met.  They met at the 6 man Vollyball Tournament to be specific, the biggest beach volleyball tournament (slash party) in the world.  They met, they flirted, they partied and they fell in love and they’ve been “happily ever after” for about 2 1/2 years since.

Their wedding, was draped in classic black & white with a pinch of red and a dash of sassy leopard.  Stephanie wore Christian Louboutin’s which accessorized three stunning dresses that she changed into throughout the evening.  The grand entrance, will never be forgotten.   Accompanied by the song “Three Little Birds,” by Bob Marley, they delicately floated in and circled round the dance floor, then quickly broke out into a choreographed number (complete with the robot) to “I’m sexy and I Know It,” by LMFAO.  Yes, this couple is nothing short of a good time.  And it all took place at the beautiful “Verandas.”  Manhattan Beach- where they first met, first started dating and have since made their home  so having their vows announced there as well, only made perfect sense.

One of my Manhattan Beach families just welcomed in a new baby boy!  So I wanted to send out a big congratulations to them as well as a Happy Father’s Day!

Readers, meet Cade.  Cade, my readers . . .

Cade was exactly seven weeks old when we had his shoot and I must say, he was the chillest lil man.  He was also extremely expressive.  A photo shoot at this age usually means they won’t be moving around a whole lot and they usually sleep through a good portion of it but many try to convince me that at that age, they haven’t found their personalities yet either.  And to them I say, no way.  Whenever I shoot a newborn-2 month infant, it is nothing short of fun because of the abundant personality.  It’s usually in a beginners mode, yes, but the act of watching them fight to explore, is personality in and of itself right?  I love watching them go through the motions- constantly adjusting their face, flailing arms and legs, cooing and cawing all the while.  There is often bubbles brewing out the mouth and sometimes occasional gas.  It’s hilarious.

For these shoots, because they aren’t mobile yet, I will usually bring a few vibrant backdrops, textured blankets and a prop or two, such as a baby hammock.  This hammock is my favorite prop ever.  My mother made it for the JCP team after I described it at length to her.  She’s crafty and yeah, she rocks.

This was my favorite shot from the day.  He looks like a porcelain doll here.  So precious.

And of course, everyone in the fam had the opportunity to hang out with him in front of my lens.

Big sis Berlin is two years his senior and has been documented by us before.  It was awesome watching her now, a year later, kiss and excitedly embrace the new edition to her family.

And then there was dad.  Just look at the pride blanketing his face as he gazes at his sleeping baby boy.  I love these moments.  And have decided to end on this shot, for two reasons-

A. It’s damn precious and B. It’s Father’s Day!  And now I’ve brought us full circle.  We, at Jen Castle Photography, wish you all the very best Father’s Day ever.
